During the 1920s, cameras with glasses photographic plates were used on anthropological expeditions. The anthropological collection contains thousands of portraits of Latvian people.
In 1939, a special anthropological photo camera adjusted to a revolving chair with a heardrest was commissioned to standardize the methodology of photography so that head and face measures could also be made from photos.
However, as under the circumstances of World War II the anthropological research was on decline and the scientific standpoints changed since 1940 the camera has never been used and is deposited in the museum.
