Born in Santiago de Compostela in 1915, Antón Beiras García earned his medical degree in 1942. He is recognized as the author of the first scientific article published in galician after the Spanish Civil War, entitled “Ensaios para mellorar os resultados terapéuticos do estrabismo”, which appeared in the journal Referatas, published by the Academia Médico Quirúrgica Provincial de Pontevedra. In this field, he also stood out for the invention of the television synoptophore, which he named the Vigoscope, designed for the treatment of strabismus. In 1962, he was awarded the prize of the Spanish Society of Ophthalmology.
