After ten years from the portrait of Antonio Coppola, carved by his father Pietro Bernini, Gian Lorenzo realized a second marmoreal bust for the Church San Giovanni dei Fiorentini, representing Antonio Cepparelli, doctor and benefactor of the hospital.

The bust

The strong personality of the portrait and the extraordinary mastery of the sculptural technique show the great progress of the young Bernini at this time.1
