This original bronze monument has been dedicated to Axel Munthe in Anacapri. It can be found in front of via Le Boffe, N. 25: nearby he spent his first holidays on the island of Capri as remebered in a memorial tablet: “Axel Munthe / giunse ad Anacapri negli / anni della giovinezza / e qui, alle Boffe, / soggiornò per lungo tempo, / creando nella sua mente / ispirata dalle bellezze / dell’isola, la sua casa /ideale: / Villa San Michele“.
The triple silhouette of Munthe’s face is sorrounded by birds, because he was a keen animalist and bought an entire mountain of the island in order to save migratory birdsfrom hunters.
