“Croce Azzurra” was the first Italian school of nursing, following the teachings and methods of Florence Nightingale. Amy Turton inaugurated the “Croce Azzurra” School in 1896 in a ward of the “Gesù e Maria” Hospital in Naples. Turton was soon replaced as director of the School by Grace Baxter who directed the school until 19131.
