This bronze medallion of Ernst Ludwig was already sculpted during the scientist’s lifetime, around 1912, by Kaspar von Zumbusch (1830-1915) and mounted on a stone slab in the course of the monument installation. The monument, at the instigation of the Ludwig family, was unveiled on December 14, 1932 among the medical monuments that can be found in the arcaded courtyard of the University of Vienna (Universitätsring, 1).
