Lorenzo Martini’s Bust

This marble bust of Lorenzo Martini is one of the Medical Monuments in the University of Turin central building and can be seen in the first floor gallery (south side). It is a work of sculptor Carlo Canigia and was finished in 18501.

Under the bust, a Latin inscription engraved by Luigi Cauda2 reads as follows: “LAURENTIO MARTINIO / DOCTORI DECURIALI MEDICINAE TRADENDAE / VIRO SUI IUDICII A POPULARI IACTATIONE REMOTO / QUI PARTA IAM NOMINIS CELEBRITATE / INOPINA MORTE RAPTUS EST III NON APRIL AN MDCCCXLIV / VIII VIRI ATHENAEO MODERANDO BMPP”.
