O Mestre by Carlos Bonvalot 1914

This oil-on-canvas painting can be seen along a staircase in the NOVA Facultade de Ciencias Medicas in Lisbon. It was painted by Portuguese artist Carlos Bonvalot (1893-1934) and represents an Anatomy lesson by Professor Henrique Jardim de Vilhena. It is worth noting the relatively high proportion of female students: they were from the Medical and the Fine Arts Schools1.
