Trani’s Hydropathic and Electropathic Establishment

This hydropathic and electropathic establishment was the very first one in the South of Italy. It was founded in 1878 in the city of Trani by Giuseppe Basile, a local doctor, who bought well-advanced machines from Paris by himself. The city major gave him the permission to start up the establishment, provided that the doctor would have given free medical treatment to the poors. Today the building in which this establishment was born is a retirement home named “Vittorio Emanuele”.
