Giovanni Battista Morgagni’s Monument

This marble monument of Giovanni Battista Morgagni, holding a skull on his left hand, was sculpted by Tuscan sculptor Salvino Salvini and donated to the City of Forlì by Camillo Versari in 18751.

The statue, oiginally placed in the nearby Palazzo degli studi (now the seat of the Province of Forlì), was moved to its current position (Piazza Morgagni) the 24th of May 1931, as remembered in the inscription on the basament of the monument: “IL 24 DI MAGGIO DEL 1931 / IL MUNICIPIO DI FORLI’ / TRASFERIVA DAL PALAZZO DEGLI STUDI / IN QUESTA PIAZZA / LA STATUA / DEL SOMMO ANATOMICO / GIA’ DONATA / DA CAMILLO VERSARI / ALLA CITTA’ NATALE / 1960”.
