A round plaque to the memory of Lord James Young Simpson can be seen inside the Edinburgh Medical School, with the following english inscription: “THE UNIVERSITY / of EDINBURGH / IN HONOUR OF / SIR JAMES / YOUNG SIMPSON / 1811 – 1870 / PIONEER OF ANAESTHETICS, / PROFESSOR OF MIDWIFERY (1840-1870), / GRADUATE OF THE UNIVERSITY”.
