Jean Martin Charcot Home

Jean-Martin Charcot lived in this beautiful home, the ancient Hôtel de Varengeville, at 217 Boulevard Saint-Germain, in Paris, from 1884 until his death in 1893.

In this big house – which included also Charcot’s work-office, library (now at the Hôpital de la Salpêtrière) and artistic atelier -, he reunited a lot of friends on his celebrated Tuesday evenings1.

On the facade, there is a memorial tablet remembering the scientist but it is usually covered by the placards of current activities in the Maison de l’Amérique latine which is now hosted in the house.
