Francois Vincent Raspail’s Tomb

François-Vincent Raspail is buried in the family tomb he wanted to be projected and built by the well-known sculptor Antoine Etex (1808-1888) and Raspail himself “decided on all details of the monument”¹. Outside the tomb there is a bas-relief portrayng “a woman [Raspail’s wife] wrapped in a shroud, clinging to prison bars”², an allusion to the long time spent in prison by Raspail as a political opponent. The tomb of Raspail can be found in the “Division 18” of the Pére Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, facing to the roundabout Casimir Perrier.
