While teaching Chemistry at the University of Strasbourg, between 1848 and 1854, Louis Pasteur lived in different homes. Between 1851 and 1853 he and his wife Marie Laurent (one of the daughters of the Rector of the Strasbourg University, whom he married in 1849) lived at Rue des Veaux, n° 3bis, in a building which was unfortunately destroyed during World War Two and it is now replaced by a modern one. Today we can see the following memorial tablet on the nearby building of Rue des Veaux, n° 3, which is a bas-relief profile portrait of the scientist made by French sculptor and medallist Henri-Auguste Patey1.
