The Gattoni Tower on the outer perimeter of the ancient city walls of Como (between Viale Varese and Viale Carlo Cattaneo) is the place where young Alessandro Volta discovered and developed his scientific attitudes. This mediaeval tower belonged to Jesuit naturalist Giulio Cesare Gattoni who was Volta’s teacher and made available to him the physics laboratory and natural history collection he had set up inside the tower.
