Cosimo De Giorgi’s Tomb

Cosimo De Giorgi died on December 1, 1922, in Lecce. The tomb was located in this family chapel in the old part of the town’s cemetery.

On the frontage of the burial place is engraved in Latin “IN TE DOMINE SPERAVI” (“IN THEE, O LORD, HAVE I PUT MY TRUST”), the incipit of Psalm 30.

Later the chapel was sold to another family and De Giorgi’s remains were lost.

Cosimo De Giorgi’s death was enrolled at number 543 in Lecce ‘s register of deaths of 1922, because of an acute gastroenteritis. He was brought to cemetery two days after his passing.
