Croce Azzurra Nursing School

“Croce Azzurra” was the first Italian school of nursing, following the teachings and methods of Florence Nightingale. Amy Turton inaugurated the “Croce Azzurra” School in 1896 in a ward of the “Gesù e Maria” Hospital in Naples. Turton was soon replaced as director of the School by Grace Baxter who directed the school until 1913¹.
