Gaetano Conte Memorial Tablet

In the entrance hall of the Ospedale degli Incurabili in Naples a marble tablet has been dedicated to the memory of Napolitan physician Gaetano Conte who, while working in this hospital, in 1836 – 32 years prior to Duchenne – first described two cases of pseudohypertrophic progressive muscular dystrophy in which he also found the presence of cardiac involvement1.
