Giovanni Battista Grassi’s Tomb

Giovanni Battista Grassi, even if native of Northern Italy, decided to be buried in Fiumicino where he had spent so much time, tryng to help people suffering from malaria.

His tomb can be found in the little cemetery of the village (Via Portuense, 2293), at the end of the central lane, just in front of the cemetery chapel.

On the granite tombstone, the names of the scientist, of his wife Maria Koenen and of his daugher Isabella. On the metallic enclosure of the tomb a memorial tablet has been added with a tribute to Grassi by the Institute of Biology “Juan Noe” of the University of Chile.
