Anatomical Theatre of Kazan University

The anatomical theatre of Kazan Imperial University (nowadays Kazan State Medical University) in Kazan (Kremlyovskaya St, 18) was built in 1837 by architect M.P. Korinfsky, with direct participation of a great Russian mathematician and a rector of the University, N.I. Lobachevsky. This is a unique monument of Russian classicism of the XIX century modeled specifically after the anatomical theaters of the Renaissance for anatomical autopsies, the study of anatomy and the dissemination of anatomical knowledge.

On the frieze of the building is a Latin inscription: «Hiс locus est, ubi mors gaudet succurrere vitae» («Here is a place where death is happy to help life»).
