Santiago Ramon y Cajal's birthplace and museum, Petilla de Aragon - 1.JPG

Santiago Ramon y Cajal]]] was born in this house of Petílla de Aragón, an enclave of the autonomous community of Navarre in Aragon, Spain, as remembered in Spanish by the oldest of the three memorial tablets on the facade: “EN ESTA CASA NACIÓ / EL 1 DE MAYO DE 1852 / EL SABIO DOCTOR / D. SANTIAGO RAMÓN Y CAJAL / GLORIA DE LA CIENCIA ESPAÑOLA / EL COLEGIO DE MÉDICOS DE NAVARRA / A SU INSIGNE PAISANO / EN EL 70 ANIVERSARIO / DE SU GLORIOSO NATALICIO / PETILLA, 1 DE MAYO DE 1922”.

The house hosts a permanent exhibition about the life and work of Cajal. The room where the scientist was born has been carefully reconstructed with original and coeval furniture and objects. Along with a good number of original publications and drawings by Ramon y Cajal, many other photographs and instruments (not only medical) of that period help the visitor to have an insight of the richness of his scientific and humanistic personality.

The Museum can be visited from April to October inclusive, on Saturdays and Sundays, from 11:30 to 13:30 and from 17:00 to 19:00. More info and visits by appointment: +34 948 88 84 89 / +34 948 88 81 07.
