Maison Vercel

Before endowing his home – on the other side of the road – with its own laboratory, Louis Pasteur set up his second laboratory in this house of Arbois in rented accomodation. As early as 1872 and more especially in 1875, 1876 and 1878, he made here his experiments on fermentation. Jules Vercel, owner of the house and Pasteur’s childhood friend, was his confidant and helped him in his experimental work.
