Niccolo Leoniceno’s Portrait

This oil-on-canvas portrait of Niccolò Leoniceno belonged to the 16th Century collection of Paolo Giovio and is now displayed in the Renaissance section of the public art gallery of Volpi Palace in Como (via Diaz, 84). From a letter of thanks, written by Giovio in Florence the 2nd of June 1521, we know that the portrait was a gift by Alfonso I d’Este, Duke of Ferrara1.
