State’s Quinine Samples

At the beginning of 20th Century, Italian governments carried on huge efforts in order to fight malaria among the poor people inhabitating the marshy regions of the Pontine Plain. Some samples of the most effective antimalarial drug of that time, the State’s Quinine (Chinino dello Stato), are displayed in the Pontine Marshes clearance collection of the historical museum of Piana delle Orme1, near Latina.
