Stefano Romeo’s Tomb

On July 18th 1869, twenty-two days before his death, Stefano Romeo dictated his will to the notary Francesco Antonio Colosi of Santo Stefano di Aspromonte. He wanted his tomb to be located in a private garden, in the district Badia, where it still can be seen. On the bottom of the monument, a beautiful inscription dictated by the distinguished jurist and patriot Luigi Zuppetta reads as follows:

« DI STEFANO ROMEO QUI GIACE IL FRALE
MOLTO EI SOFFRI’ MA ALFIN VINSE I BORBONI
E AI POSTERI INDISSE LA MORALE
CHE SPARIR DENNO DEI TIRANNI I TRONI »
