Old Ospedale Maggiore’s Marble Lunette

This marble lunette, representing the Holy Virgin Mary among sick people, was originally unveiled in 1902 on the entrance door of the old Ospedale Maggiore in Bologna. After the demolition of the old hospital due to the WW2 bombing and the building of the new one in the current location (Largo Bartolo Nigrisoli, 2), the surviving lunette was placed near the entrance ramp to the new hospital. The sculpture was made by Italian artist Tullo Golfarelli1.
