Just inside the lateral entrance to the central church of the Holy Mary’s Nativity, in Scandiano, a solemn monument – a cenotaph – containing the heart (precordia) of Lazzaro Spallanzani can be seen.
The monument – by sculptor Francesco Tondelli from Reggio Emilia1 contains a long inscription describing Spallanzani’s merits and works.
