On an external wall of the Muséum national d’histoire naturelle in the Jardin des Plantes of Paris (in front of 9, rue Buffon), this marble bust of Claude Bernard can be seen – accompanied by his name (almost invisible, on top of the window) and birth and death dates: 1813-1878 – as a testimony of the importance of the founder of the “experimental medicine” for life sciences in general.
