Albrecht Thaer bought this area in Celle (Im Güldenen Winkel 8) from brewer Heinrich Reimers in 1786, shortly before his wedding. The property was first mentioned in documents in 1712 under the name Reimerskamp and later as Reimersgarten. Thaer had the manor house built immediately after the purchase, which is still standing today.
Whether and to what extent Thaer carried out his agricultural experiments on the site is no longer exactly clear. In any case, Thaer followed a call to Prussia in 1804 and founded the first German agricultural academy on the Möglin estate in the Mark Brandenburg1.
