Emil von Behring is buried in this mausoleum of Marburg (Wannkopfstrasse). He died of pneumonia in Marburg, Germany, on March 31, 1917. Before his passing, Behring planned the mausoleum himself and oversaw its construction on his own land, but it was completed posthumously and became his final resting place.
It is not often possible to enter the mausoleum, but through a metal window on the entrance door, it is possible to observe a bronze bust in honour of Behring.
The mausoleum is situated on the Elsenhöhe, a hill named after Behring’s wife, Else von Behring. From this vantage point, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Marburg Castle and the surrounding landscape.1.
The Behring-Mausoleum is accessible to the public as a part of the Behring Route and it is considered the 7th “station”.
