Medici Madonna 1450S By Rogier Van Der Weyden

This painting on wood known as the “Medici Madonna” is a work of Netherlandish painter Rogier van der Weyden and can be seen in the Städel Museum of Frankfurt am Main (Schaumainkai, 63). As a work commissioned by the Medici Family, it features on the right the family’s patron Saints Cosmas and Damian. One of them notably carries in his right hand a matula, the transparent glass flask used by ancient physicians to carefully observe urines (uroscopy).
