St Rupertus Und St Hildegard Church

The Catholic memorial church dedicated to Saint Hildegard of Bingen and Saint Rupert near Bingen am Rhein and not far from the ancient monastery of Saint Hildegard on the Rupertsberg, was built at the end of the 19th century and features a Neo-Romanesque design, in keeping with the monastery church at Ruprecht. The spatial design is striking for its formal simplicity and its direct reference to the structure of the monastic church associated with the figure of Hildegard.

Inside, attention is drawn to the five large stained-glass windows in the transept, which depict the life and works of the saint. A small shrine is housed in a side chapel, containing a reliquary with the relics of Saint Hildegard and Saint Rupert, who lived and worked in this area at the mouth of the Nahe in the 8th century and is known as the patron saint of pilgrims. For this very reason, the church serves as the destination for those walking the Hildegard Way, where it is also possible to obtain a commemorative stamp for the pilgrimage.
